The Role:
Axonis Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking an exceptional Senior Director / Vice President of Program Management to join its growing team. Axonis is a Boston-based biotechnology company advancing breakthrough drug discoveries to treat neurological disorders. Our lead program is a portfolio of first- and best-in-class oral small molecule drugs targeting KCC2, the chief CNS-specific chloride transporter essential for neuron inhibition, to treat epilepsies, chronic pain and other neurological disorders. The full-time role will report to the CEO. The position will be located in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight across early-stage development programs, ensuring alignment with company objectives and timelines.
- Lead development of program strategy and deliver integrated program plans, including objectives, timelines, budgets, and key development milestones.
- Oversee non-clinical and clinical data deliverables, including reports and decks, for investor communication.
- Establish and manage program governance structures (e.g., Core Teams, Sub-teams), ensuring clear accountability, decision-making, and documentation of key actions and decisions.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with Discovery, Nonclinical, Clinical, Regulatory, and CMC leads to ensure alignment of strategy, deliverables, and risk mitigation plans.
- Facilitate regular project meetings with key stakeholders, including consultants/CROs, to assess program performance and address higher scope challenges.
- Lead preparation and presentation of program updates, risk/benefit analyses, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and the Board.
- Champion operational excellence by implementing best practices, tools, and processes to enhance program efficiency, transparency, and decision-making.
- Develop and maintain databases and electronic filing systems to organize documentation of non-clinical projects and optimize team efficiency and quality of outcomes.
- Coordinate and manage external consultants and non-clinical CRO’s to ensure timely project delivery within scope and budget, while effectively communicating changes to internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct scouting and selection of non-clinical CROs and Vendors, and facilitate implementation of MSAs/SOWs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- PhD in a related scientific discipline with 5+ years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 7+ years, or Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years’ of experience in managing and/or supporting non-clinical projects in relevant areas.
- Prior regulatory submission experience essential for this role.
- Experience managing overall Program Timelines, including non-clinical, clinical, CMC.
- Ability to uphold internal and external milestones and streamline R&D performance.
- Strong collaboration, relationship-building skills and entrepreneurial spirit equipped with an ability to integrate across all company projects and achieve desired goals.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Understanding of financial aspects, including knowledge of resource planning (headcount and budget) and management.
- Extensive experience in small biotech companies.
- Small molecule experience.
- PMP certification.
